The Level 1 course trains both new and experienced instructors to skillfully teach and guide beginner to intermediate mountain bikers, in both cross country and downhill environments. New instructors learn the tools they need to safely and effectively teach, while experienced instructors will increase their level of skill and understanding in teaching and riding theory, that the PMBI Certifications uniquely provide.
A strong focus is given to learning teaching skills in their own right, to develop a sense of this all-important part of a mountain bike lesson. As you learn and practice proven, modern teaching skills through the course, you’ll see how being a good rider is only one part of being a professional instructor.
Each day of the three-day course, instructor candidates will learn riding skills and theory, have plenty of time to practice, and receive personal feedback for your own improvement. Additional PMBI Workshops covering topics such as bike-fit, mechanics and first aid, take place at the start or end of each day, to further build your knowledge and skillset during the course.PLEASE NOTE: This course includes a teaching and riding assessment. Please ensure you make yourself familiar with the riding and teaching standards, as well as the prerequisites before registering. Further information on these standards can be found at http://www.pmbia.org/courses/level-1/
The PMBIA certifications are valid for three years. If you wish to remain up to date you must either take a development module, the next level of certification course, or a Re-certification course, before your certification becomes older than three years. This ensures our members maintain a minimum level of competency and skill, ensuring the PMBIA upholds the professional industry standard.
The one-day Re-certification course is also the perfect way to update your knowledge to the latest teaching and riding techniques in the industry, to sharpen your own skills and get some feedback from the best instructors out there.
The course provides access to all the PMBIA Course Materials and Level 1 Worksheet.
The day begins with a review of the Level 1 worksheet (to be completed prior to the course commencing) and a bike set-up review. Moving onto the trails, the morning will be spent reviewing the skill-based example lessons from the Level 1 course, along with the relevant teaching and guiding theory.
Before and after lunch, candidates will gain a chance to practice teach the skill-based lessons. The day will wrap up with a review and another practice teach of the Level 1 Foundation Maneuvers and a brief workshop on First Aid Training & Mechanics.PLEASE NOTE: This course includes a teaching and riding assessment. Please ensure you make yourself familiar with the riding and teaching standards, as well as the prerequisites before registering.
